The long wait for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is almost over, and Nintendo has released an extended new trailer just weeks ahead of launch. The footage sets up Samus Aran’s latest mission, showcases new abilities, and confirms she won’t be entirely alone on the mysterious planet Viewros—though escaping it may be another story.
Early in the trailer, Samus responds to a distress signal from a Galactic Federation research facility suddenly attacked by her longtime rival, Sylux. Amid the chaos, Samus is transported to the dangerous world of Viewros, and several Federation soldiers are pulled along with her. But without her ship, returning home could be impossible for all of them.
Samus retains her signature arsenal, and the trailer reveals several new abilities—including psychic powers that allow her to precisely guide shots or interact with ancient technology scattered across Viewros. GameSpot recently previewed these abilities during a hands-on demo.
Viewros features multiple biomes ranging from abandoned industrial complexes to a wide-open desert. In these larger areas, Samus can ride her motorcycle, the Vi-0-La, which can be summoned even inside factories. These moments shift the gameplay from first-person to third-person for traversal.
Metroid Prime 4 launches December 4 for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. While both versions share the same core experience, Switch 2 players can take advantage of mouse-style aiming through the Joy-Con 2. The trailer demonstrates how players can switch between traditional and mouse-like controls on the fly.
